About

Dr. Emma Ostrovskaya BSc, DCounsPsy, HCPCreg

My journey into the field of psychology began at an early age. From secondary school, it became clear that I was always deeply curious about the human experience, delving into theories behind human development, emotions, and behaviors. This early interest solidified during my undergraduate studies in Psychology, and my first dissertation was the ‘Cross-cultural study on the interconnections between colors and emotions in children and adults in Russia and the UK.’

My academic and professional development continued through a Doctorate in Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology at Regent’s University London. I was especially drawn to the program for its existential-phenomenological focus, led by esteemed therapist and author Ernesto Spinelli. This philosophical approach, with its emphasis on meaning-making, embodiment, mortality, and lived experience, resonated deeply with my concurrent personal practice in Tibetan Buddhism, a tradition I have followed under the guidance of several Tibetan Masters for over two decades.

During my doctoral research

Specifically through the thesis titled The Phenomenology of the Embodiment of Insight—I encountered the limitations of language-based therapies alone. This became a pivotal realization: while talking therapy facilitates understanding and reflection, trauma often resides in the body in ways that words cannot fully access. This insight led me to explore and train in trauma-informed, neuroscience-led, and somatic approaches to psychotherapy.
